# Flame Whirls (DD-504)

> Fire whirls, or fire tornadoes, form when intense heat drives rising air that begins to rotate, often helped by wind shear or terrain, creating a spinning column of flame and hot gas. They can reach over 1,000 °C (1,800 °F), move unpredictably and spread embers. The footage, credited to extremenature, shows a fire whirl over burning ground.
