# McLaren Automotive (DD-185)

> McLaren began in 1963 when New Zealand driver Bruce McLaren founded Bruce McLaren Motor Racing, which entered Formula One in 1966. Bruce McLaren died in a testing crash in 1970, but the team became one of the most successful in F1. The McLaren F1 road car of the 1990s was for years the fastest production car. McLaren Automotive, the road-car company based in Woking, England, launched its first model, the MP4-12C, in 2011, and its cars are known for carbon-fiber chassis.
