# One Small Fall for Man... (DD-541)

> During the Apollo Moon landings (1969-1972), astronauts sometimes fell over. Lunar gravity is about one-sixth of Earth's, and pressurized suits that protected them from extreme temperatures and micrometeoroids were bulky and stiff, making bending, turning and recovering balance difficult. Many adopted a bunny-hop gait to move efficiently. The footage, credited to galaxies, shows astronauts falling on the Moon.

## Write-up

Apollo astronauts often tumbled on the Moon. Stiff suits and one-sixth gravity made balance hard.

### Transcript

Did you know, astronauts falling over on the moon during the Apollo missions was a common occurrence due to the moon's low gravity, about one sixth of Earth's. Combined with the bulkiness of their spacesuits and limited mobility, the suits were designed to protect astronauts from extreme temperatures and micrometeoroids, but they made bending, turning, and recovering balance difficult. Even simple tasks like walking or lifting equipment became awkward, and astronauts often adopted a bunny-hop motion to move more efficiently. NOW YOU KNOW!
