# Suricata Suricatta (DD-139)

> The meerkat (Suricata suricatta) is a small mongoose of southern Africa's arid regions. Meerkats live in groups called mobs, gangs or clans, typically of 20 to 30 members and up to about 50. While the group forages, one or more sentinels watch from a raised spot and give alarm calls that vary with the type and urgency of the threat. Group members also share babysitting and teach pups to handle prey. The footage shows meerkats standing guard and foraging, with the presenter.
