A Little Off the Top

Short answer: Oil skimmers remove oil floating on water. Many use a belt, disc, drum or tube made of material that oil clings to more than water; as it moves through the surface the oil sticks, and a wiper scrapes it off into a container.

Portable units handle small spills and industrial tanks. The footage shows a skimmer pulling oil from water.

Did you know, handheld oil skimmers are portable tools designed for small-scale oil removal tasks in industrial settings or during minor oil spill cleanups. These devices typically consist of a lightweight frame with a motorized belt, disc, or tube that attracts and collects oil from the surface of the water. The collected oil is then scraped off or siphoned into a container for disposal or recycling. NOW YOU KNOW!
