Cell Death
Short answer: Apoptosis is programmed cell death, a tightly regulated process that removes damaged or unneeded cells.
Unlike necrosis, which is uncontrolled and inflammatory, apoptosis is triggered by internal stress such as DNA damage or oxidative stress, or by external signals such as death ligands and immune cells, and proceeds through caspases, enzymes that dismantle the cell. The footage, credited to michaeloftiktokofficial, shows a cell breaking apart under a microscope.

Video transcript: Cell Death: Your Cells Are Built to Self-Destruct When Needed
Did you know, apoptosis is a controlled process of programmed cell death, essential for maintaining healthy tissues and eliminating damaged or unnecessary cells. Unlike necrosis, which is an uncontrolled and inflammatory form of cell death, apoptosis is highly regulated by cellular signals and involves a series of molecular events. The process is triggered by internal stress, DNA damage or oxidative stresses, or external signals, death ligands, or immune responses, leading to the activation of caspases, specialized enzymes that break down cellular components.
