Root of the Problem

Short answer: Root canal treatment addresses infection or damage in a tooth's pulp, the soft tissue with nerves and blood vessels. A dentist removes the pulp, cleans, shapes and disinfects the canals, then fills and seals them, usually with a rubbery material called gutta-percha, and often adds a crown.

It can save teeth that would otherwise be extracted. The footage shows an animation of the procedure.
